Position : DevOps Engineer - Network & Perimeter Security

Location: Remote

 

Responsibilities:

  • DevOps Engineer with proven experience in Reliability & Observability related toolchains (LogicMonitor, Splunk ITSI, DataDog, ELK, Grafana among others) and, in addition, proven knowledge & experience developing using DevOps/IaC languages and toolchains (Python, Groovy, Gitlab, Gitlab-ci, jenkins). As a "nice to have", it would be good if the candidate has Network Security Devices knowledge

Requirements:

  • Technical Skills Networking Knowledge Understanding of SNMP: Familiarity with SNMP versions: SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, SNMPv3 (notable for their security differences). Key SNMP Elements: OID (Object Identifier): Ability to interpret and navigate the MIB tree. MIB (Management Information Base): Use of MIB files to decode device data. Proficiency in SNMP operations: GET SET TRAP WALK Device Configuration: Capable of setting up SNMP agents for: Switches Routers Servers IoT devices Security devices Networking Protocols: Strong understanding of: TCP/IP UDP (protocol used within SNMP). ICMP, DHCP, DNS (related protocols). Knowledge in: Network topologies OSI model layers Device communication and interaction within networks. Device Configuration and Management: Advanced skill in configuring SNMP on: Firewalls Switches Routers Servers Familiarity with vendor-specific configurations (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ISE). LogicMonitor Knowledge LogicMonitor Configuration: Ability to configure: DataSources, EventSources, ConfigSources Creating and managing dashboards for real-time monitoring and trend analysis. Setting up alerts, thresholds, and escalation policies to ensure proactive monitoring. Logic Monitor: Collector Setup and Management: Installing, configuring, and maintaining LogicMonitor Collectors on supported systems (Linux or Windows). Troubleshooting issues with collectors and understanding collector logs.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills Key Competencies: Data Interpretation: Ability to analyze SNMP data: CPU usage Memory Interface statuses Device performance bottlenecks Troubleshooting: Fixing connectivity issues between monitoring tools and devices. Example issues: Incorrect community strings Firewall blocks MIB configuration mismatches Network Diagnostics: Using tools like Wireshark to: Trace SNMP communication packets. Analyze packet inconsistencies/errors.
  • Organizational and Soft Skills Attention to Detail Ensure accurate and precise SNMP parameter configurations: Correct OID definitions. Accurate Threshold settings. Documentation Develop clear and useful documentation, such as: Comprehensive SNMP technical guides. Runbooks and step-by-step instructions for resolving common device issues. Communication Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to: Design and implement SNMP monitoring architectures. Simplify and present complex setups to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner. Time Management Manage multiple monitoring tasks and devices efficiently. Stay responsive and act decisively in high-pressure scenarios, such as real-time issues or escalations. Proactivity Proactively identify and resolve potential problems by: Establishing robust device monitoring measures. Keeping updated on the latest developments in SNMP trends and security best practices. 
  • Bonus and Complementary Skills Cloud Monitoring: Knowledge of SNMP integrations with cloud platforms like: AWS Azure Google Cloud Programming Experience: GitLab Leveraging APIs and programming: Third-party tool integration with SNMP. Languages: Python Groovy Certifications: Highly valuable: Cisco CCNA/CCNP Other Monitoring Protocols: Complement SNMP expertise with: NetFlow or sFlow ICMP
